2.2A The Oxbow

This is an art activity to help second-grade art teachers. It correlates with the Core Knowledge curriculum and springboards off a discussion of “The Oxbow” (1836 ) by Thomas Cole. Second-grade art students enjoy a tremendous sense of accomplishment after completing this assignment. Most students are able to recite the four methods artists use to create depth in a work of art: size, color, detail, and overlapping.
